Salon by Debbie Spas’ New Talent Program

Posted 7 Oct 2014 . Filed under : Employment

Salon by Debbie Spas has created the New Talent Program to give emerging, licensed hair stylists the opportunity to develop and polish the skills that will take them to the next level at elite salons.

The New Talent Program is designed to identify individuals in the spa/salon industry who are poised for advanced training. The program pairs an up-and-coming, licensed stylist with a mentor in one of Salon by Debbie Spas’ three locations–Spa in The Valley, Spa on The Avenue, or Spa on The Boulevard—to gain the knowledge and experience to advance. Mentors are Platinum Level hair designers who are either certified educators or master-level stylists. Platinum Level hair designers are the leaders in their industry; each has mastered his or her trade and has at least 10 years of experience. Currently there are 32 Platinum Level hair designers in Salon by Debbie Spas.

New Talent stylists work with their mentor for an average of 12 months to learn precision hair cutting and color techniques on all hair types to accommodate every guest. They learn through technical theory, hands-on classes, and repetition. New Talent stylists already have their license, but this program provides them with the kind of advanced training required to work with clients at Salon by Debbie Spas.

When New Talent stylists complete their training, they spend one month in a post-graduate program, working with existing guests they have acquired and welcoming new guests to build their book. During this fellowship period, their mentor continues to review their work, and their guests benefit by enjoying a 50% discount on their hair services.

The very first New Talent graduate, Emily Reeves, is now working on her own clients at Spa on The Boulevard, the Salon by Debbie Spa located in Abingdon, Md. Since August 1, Emily has been cutting, coloring, and styling clients’ hair, charging half the usual cost. According to Emily, “The most valuable lesson I gained through this program would be confidence. This is a key ingredient to being a successful stylist. My mentor, Holly Balabanick, gave me every tool possible to excel in my career.”

Together they worked side by side for 10 months and Holly has watched Emily flourish on many levels. Her clients are thrilled with Emily’s work, enjoying her creativity and skill, on top of the discounted price. Emily has a full book, and is looking forward to continued growth in the field.

The New Talent Program is offered twice a year to a limited number of qualified applicants at all three Salon by Debbie Spas locations. To apply, please complete an Application for Employment and attach a resume for review. Upon evaluation, mentors will schedule seasonal interviews based on the next availability in this exclusive program.
